Mayans, Paya Indians, pirates, the Garifuna: visit a museum or interpretive centre that tells the story of Roatan’s early days spanning prehistoric times, Mayan occupation, Christopher Columbus and the colonial period. Watch artists create intricate designs on tropical sea shells. Visit the first Garifuna settlement in North America at Punta Gorda where the nearby cultural centre offers a historical walk, dance performances and traditional cuisine demonstrations.

Welcome to Roatan Butterfly Garden. You will see and learn about some of Honduras' most colorful butterflies including varieties such as common owl, zebra, helicopter, firecracker, julia's, sunset longwing, monarch, and queen. Join our guided tour (about an hour) or explore the park on your own.
