Swimming and Roatan Beaches

Swimming and Roatan Beaches

Roatan beaches are some of the best in the Caribbean. Water temperatures average 27c (80F). Roatan’s West Bay Beach is perhaps the most famous strip on the island which is likely why Lonely Planet (2010) describes its white sands as “pitch perfect”. West Bay Beach offers a variety of amenities including dive resorts, restaurants and pubs, water sports equipment, souvenir shops and even a strolling ice cream vendor that delivers cool treats right to your lounge chair! Excellent snorkelling is located just off the beach particularly at the western end.

West End and Half Moon Bay are also swimming and water playground hotspots. The Roatan Marine Park office is located in West End, one of several places where you can rent snorkelling equipment. Even more choices of restaurants, pubs and shops are located adjacent to West End Beach. Roatan water taxis connect West Bay Beach with Half Moon Bay and West End.

If you are looking for something off the beaten path, generally beaches along the northern coast are less visited and you may even find one all to yourself. Roatan’s eastern islands offer many secluded beaches with ideal snorkelling conditions and tour companies offer shore excursions into this less travelled part of Roatan.
